I know, I know, it’s been a while… but I have a very good reason as to why I’ve been so quiet on this blog of mine… I got married!
Yes, indeed, I married the wonderful Chris, who was my first proper boyfriend back when I was 15 and we were reunited a few years ago. If you want to know more about how we met, watch the video here.
I decided to take a break from any videos, blogs and social media for around five weeks or so leading up to and including the wedding & honeymoon. There were two reasons for this:
1) I wanted to really enjoy the process without worrying about getting my camera out or sitting down for hours to edit videos or write blog posts – it allowed me to live in the moment and really enjoy it, and to focus on what was going on there and then.
2) It meant that I didn’t stress out whilst doing my last minute wedding planning. If you read the story about my battle with Crohn’s disease, you’ll know that stress was a trigger for me. The symptoms of my disease seem to be most aggravated when under a large amount of stress (the last flare up was ‘the big one’, when I was buying my first house AND was at risk of redundancy AND I was getting over a crappy break-up). From my past experience, I knew that stressful situations could very well lead to me slipping out of my comfy remission-bubble and back into a flare-up, and I knew that my wedding day would be one of the most stressful days of my life.
That’s why I wanted to take time off from my blog and YouTube channel, so that the only thing I had to think about was the wedding. Not vlogging, not editing, not writing… just 100% wedding. And it was definitely the right thing for me to do. I had no symptoms whatsoever, and I was able to actually enjoy the day.
Speaking of my YouTube channel, I think I’ll take this opportunity to talk about the schedule on there.
Of course, Ostomonday is still my ‘main video’, because that’s what most of my viewers subscribed to my channel for in the first place, and that’s what I’m most passionate about – reaching out to other ostomates out there and providing tips and support to those who went through what I went through.
The reason for this is that it’s too much work to do all those videos PLUS working full-time on MyOstomy.co.uk and Coloplast’s YouTube channel too. That’s not to say that I’ll never post a ‘Get Ready With Me’ video or do a Throwback Thursday video, or review a beauty product, it just means that it’s not going to be as often. I don’t want to just force out content just for the sake of it, without actually wanting to put it out there.
And that brings me to my daily vlogs. People have asked me whether I’ll pick those up again, and the answer is… YES! The reason I stopped was purely because I didn’t have time to edit them all together, but now that the wedding is over, I have more time to edit daily. Not only that, but vlogging daily allowed me to stay accountable with my fitness which, I regret to say, took a back seat over the last few months. But I’ll talk about that another time!
Finally, I just wanted to say thank you for all the kind messages that people have been sending me congratulating us on our wedding, it’s been so lovely!
